The performance and quality of markings mainly depend from the output power and the laser beam focus.
cab XENO 4 marking lasers are diode-pumped and air-cooled. They have high beam quality and high pulse peak powers. Beam sources are provided with 20, 30 and 50 Watt.
Different plano-spherical lenses enable marking in fields from 69 x 69 mm to 290 x 290 mm.
Marking is possible on plastics, metals and painted surfaces.
XENO 4 marking lasers consist of two units: A control unit with an integral beam source and a scan head that is connected with the beam source via a fiber. It can be assembled in any orientation.
The integrated focus finder simplifies workpiece positioning.

Product & Basics
What is the XENO 4+?
The XENO 4+ is a laser marking system by cab designed for industrial integration. It features an IPG laser source “Made in Germany”, a SCANLAB galvanometer scanner, and comes with an extended warranty of 2+2 years (up to 4 years total). The XENO 4+ consists of a control unit in 19” rack format and a compact scan head connected via fibre, which can be mounted in any orientation.
What laser power levels are available?
The XENO 4+ is available with laser sources of 20, 30, and 50 watts. The choice of power depends on the material, desired marking speed, and contrast. For most metal and plastic applications, 20 W is sufficient; 50 W is recommended for high cycle rates or difficult-to-mark materials.
What materials can be marked?
The XENO 4+ marks on metals (steel, stainless steel, aluminium, brass, copper, etc.), plastics, and painted surfaces. Typical applications include type plates, serial numbers, Data Matrix codes (DMC), barcodes, logos, and plain text – wherever permanent, abrasion-resistant marking is required.
What components does the system consist of?
The XENO 4+ consists of two units: (1) the control unit in 19” rack format with integrated laser source, and (2) a compact scan head connected to the control unit via fibre. The scan head can be mounted in any orientation – ideal for integration into production lines.
What is the difference between the XENO 4+ and the XENO 4S?
The XENO 4S additionally features an adjustable focus position (±70 mm depending on the lens). This allows height differences on a workpiece to be compensated automatically within milliseconds – without any loss in cycle time. The XENO 4+ without the S option operates on a fixed marking plane.
Marking fields & Optics
What marking field sizes are available?
Various plano-spherical F-Theta lenses enable marking fields from 69 × 69 mm up to 290 × 290 mm. As a rule: the smaller the marking field, the higher the resolution and detail.
Can the lenses be changed?
Yes. The F-Theta lens can be replaced if needed (damage or change of marking field). A recalibration of the system is required after a lens change to ensure marking accuracy.
What is the integrated focus finder?
The focus finder is a visual aid in the scan head that simplifies the precise positioning of the workpiece at the focal plane. It projects a visible pilot laser (laser class 2) onto the marking plane, allowing the operator to quickly and accurately set the correct working distance.
Software & Operation
What software is used?
All XENO systems work exclusively with CabLase Editor 5. CabLase Editor 5 offers graphical layout design, marking control, process monitoring, and variable data processing (counters, date/time, database connectivity). For customer-specific integrations, cab automation is available.
What operating modes does the XENO 4+ support?
Two modes are available: (1) Stand-alone mode – layouts and fonts are transferred to the laser controller; marking is triggered without a PC via digital I/O signals. (2) Remote API mode – full programming via TCP/IP: create objects, set parameters, manage layouts. Ideal for Industry 4.0 environments and PLC integration.
Is marking without a PC possible?
Yes. In stand-alone mode, layouts and fonts are transferred once to the internal controller of the XENO 4+. Marking can then be triggered and monitored entirely via the digital I/O interface – without a permanent PC connection.
Can I mark variable data (serial numbers, QR codes, dates)?
Yes. CabLase Editor 5 supports counters, date/time variables, database connectivity, and external data inputs. Variable QR codes and Data Matrix codes can also be dynamically populated from external sources such as a PLC.
Interfaces & Integration
What interfaces does the XENO 4+ have?
The XENO 4+ offers: 2 × Ethernet, 2 × RS232C, digital I/O interface with 8 inputs and outputs, remote interface, interlock/emergency stop, USB, and optional MOTF (Marking on the fly).
How is PLC integration achieved?
Via the Remote API interface using TCP/IP. cab provides a PLC programming guide documenting all commands. Typical workflow: PLC establishes connection → select layout → transfer variable data → start marking → query status.
Is ERP/MES integration possible?
Yes. Through our cab automation, we are able to deliver a customer-specific integration for virtually any requirement.
What is Marking on the fly (MOTF)?
MOTF is an optional feature that allows workpieces on a conveyor belt to be marked without distortion while in motion. The marking is synchronised with the belt speed – ideal for inline processes with high throughput.
Safety & Laser classification
What laser class is the XENO 4+?
The XENO 4+ is a class 4 laser. When operated inside a closed enclosure (laser class 1 housing), no special safety measures are required. When operated as an open class 4 system, registration with the relevant authority is required and a laser safety officer must be appointed within the company.
Is an extraction system required?
Yes. The XENO 4+ must be operated with a certified extraction and filtration system suitable for the generated particles and gases. cab offers appropriate systems. The performance parameters must be matched to the respective marking material.
What are interlock and emergency stop?
The interlock/emergency stop interface (CON7) is used to integrate the XENO 4+ into the safety circuit of the production line. An external emergency stop switch can be connected to immediately shut down the laser. Operation without a properly wired safety interface is not permitted.
Service & Warranty
What is the warranty period for the XENO 4+?
The XENO 4+ comes with an extended warranty of 2+2 years (up to 4 years total) or 30,000 operating hours.
What maintenance is required?
cab fibre lasers are low-maintenance. The F-Theta lens should be regularly inspected for contamination or damage, and the extraction filters should be replaced periodically.

8 "Marking on-the-fly" (MOTF) is available as an option. Individual parts or workpieces can be marked on a conveyor belt without distortion.
Shifting the focus with XENO 4S / XENO 4S+
By shifting the focus, XENO 4S can within fractions of a second effortlessly compensate height differences on a component. By mechanical unit adjustment, even complex markings are possible on different levels of a component without loss of cycle time.
A control unit calculates the respective layout scaling. Depending from the plano-spherical lens in use, shifting is possible up to ±70 mm.
